Improving food production on atoll island soils

In South Tarawa, the IKI-funded Blue-Green Development in Kiribati project has spent three years supporting communities with practical tools and methods to restore and improve local soils. The initiative combines the expertise of i-Kiribati horticulturists with knowledge from international specialists. Its lessons are now being shared with other atoll nations, including Tuvalu, Nauru, and the Marshall Islands, while also being documented for wider use across Kiribati.
This handbook is designed to help households and communities enhance soil quality, strengthen local food production, and build resilience to the current and future impacts of climate change.
