Conservation Close to Home explores how local government conservation efforts can support Canada’s national biodiversity goals and international commitments, while highlighting the benefits of local conservation areas for communities. The publication provides context on area-based conservation and biodiversity preservation through a municipal lens. It also features three local government case studies that examine approaches to recognizing conservation sites, key partnerships, common challenges, and recommendations for overcoming barriers in the conservation process.
