What we are doing

The Just Energy Transition (JET) dialogue has underscored the need for urgent renewable energy adoption to bolster energy resilient and mitigate the climate crisis caused by GHG emissions. However, despite ongoing initiatives, limited understanding among some stakeholders and low participation from marginalized communities hinder an inclusive approach, with discussions often dominated by climate NGOs and elect partners. Zeroing in on Eastern Samar Province, with recurring power instabilities and high poverty rates, the province urgently requires resilient RE solutions for reliable power during disasters and sustainable development. By supporting the LGU and engaging various stakeholders, the project aims to empower the province as a JET leader, advocating for energy justice and inclusive development. q

What we are achieving

Oxfam Pilipinas, partnering with ICLEI SEAS, aims to promote a democratized approach to RE integration in local development plans in Eastern Samar, focusing on fairness and inclusivity, especially for poor women and vulnerable communities.
