MICAT- Multiple Impacts Calculation Tool

MICAT
ACTIVITY INFORMATION
What we are doing

Energy efficiency is a relevant component in the process of achieving the long-term objective of climate neutrality by 2050. Unfortunately, facing the energy efficiency gap, its potential is not fully exploited. In MICAT we will explore and highlight the additional non-energy values of energy efficiency measures and investments, for example, economic, social and environmental impacts. It could help close this gap and facilitate better energy-relevant decisions and policy-making. The goal of MICAT is to develop a comprehensive approach to estimate these non-energy impacts of energy efficiency (Multiple Impacts of Energy Efficiency). MICAT will conduct analyses at local, national and the EU level to address a broad target group as well as to compare and assess the relevance of the Multiple Impacts at different levels of governance. The project sets a sound scientific empirical basis for monitoring Multiple Impacts while providing a publicly available and easy-to-use online tool (MICATool), which shall be developed in a co-creational manner with the respective governance levels. The national and local cases for monitoring Multiple Impacts of Energy Efficiency will be developed further in a broad stakeholder and dissemination approach to set a standard for future reporting on Multiple Impacts of Energy Efficiency.

What we are achieving

ICLEI ES specific role in the MICAT consortium is to involve three European municipalities in the development and testing of the MICAT tool and accompany them along the process, for example, by organising in situ workshops. ICLEI will also formulate policy recommendations for leveraging multiple impacts at the respective governance level and contribute to disseminating MICAT's results withing its network and beyond.
