About CDP-ICLEI Track

CDP-ICLEI Track is the world’s leading city climate reporting platform, empowering local and subnational governments to take measurable, transparent, and impactful climate action.

ICLEI pioneered city climate reporting with the carbonn Climate Registry, the first global platform for voluntary local climate reporting. In 2019, ICLEI partnered with CDP to launch CDP-ICLEI Track, combining CDP’s expertise in environmental disclosure with ICLEI’s global network of more than 2,500 cities and regions.

  • Reporting climate data is the foundation of effective action. By tracking greenhouse gas emissions, risks, and progress, cities can:
  • Identify gaps and opportunities for stronger climate strategies
  • Demonstrate leadership and transparency to communities, partners, and investors
  • Align with international frameworks such as the Paris Agreement and UN-backed campaigns like Race to Zero
  • Access tailored support, technical assistance, and financing opportunities

How it works

For cities beginning their climate journey, CDP-ICLEI Track offers a guided process for building credible and science-based plans. For returning cities, reporting enables continuous progress, greater accountability, and broader impact.

In 2022, nearly 1,100 cities reported through CDP-ICLEI Track. A record 122 cities earned “A List” recognition for demonstrating climate leadership and transparency. The data collected is used by global institutions such as the UN, IPCC, WHO, and the World Bank to inform policy, research, and investment priorities. CDP-ICLEI Track also enables simultaneous reporting to other key initiatives including ICLEI, C40, WWF, and the Global Covenant of Mayors.

The carbonn Climate Center leads ICLEI’s work on CDP-ICLEI Track by providing strategic guidance, reviewing climate action plans, and supporting cities through technical advice and tools. The Center ensures alignment with the Paris Agreement, advises on next steps for climate planning, and links reporting cities to initiatives like the Transformative Actions Program (TAP) for project development and finance.
