What we did

The ICLEI World Congress is needed to address sustainable urban development and equitable adaptation to local and regional challenges. By providing a platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and strategic discussions, the Congress aims to foster collective action that can help local and regional governments to respond effectively to global challenges. The ICLEI World Congress impacts local and regional governments by creating opportunities for knowledge sharing, capacity building, policy and action alignment, networking, collaboration, and being exposed to new ideas and policies that leaders can take back home. Members at the ICLEI World Congress are able to showcase their initiatives and policies, engage in discussions, and learn (and eventually adapt) best practices.

What we achieved

ICLEI hosts the World Congress, and facilitates networking amongst members and stakeholders, as well as promotes knowledge exchange and advocates for and helps implement sustainable measures. Ideally, as a result of the World Congress, there will be improved policy alignment amongst members, enhanced capacity for further sustainable urban development in towns, cities, and regions, strengthened collaboration, and increased motivation and engagement. Under the theme "Transforming commitments into action," the ICLEI World Congress 2024, hosted by the City of São Paulo, Brazil, aims to be a journey of reflection and forward-looking vision, emphasizing the critical challenges and opportunities due to rising global risks and changes.
