What we did

Elgin, IL contracted to complete the city’s first community wide and local government operations greenhouse gas inventories. These GHGI’s are the first steps towards creating the City;s first Climate Action Plan to aid the city in reducing its emissions.

What we achieved

ICLEI USA conducted a 2021 community-wide and local government operations greenhouse gas inventory following the US Community Protocol (USCP) and Global Protocol (GPC). Following the inventory, a business as usual forecast and science based target were calculated for Elgin. An equity assessment using the Climate & Economic Justice Screening Tool (CEJST) was also conducted. A report and slide deck were created and provided to the City. ICLEI staff presented the findings to the City Council.
