What we did

The first edition of the Daring Cities Forum, convened virtually in September 2020, created a significant awareness on the importance of urban leaders taking on the climate emergency while facing the COVID-19 pandemic. 2020 was also the year that regional and national inequalities became apparent, especially in regard to emergency management capacities and introducing transformative policy responses at scale. On top of that, the scale, coverage and diversity of extreme weather events proliferated worldwide. The experiences of communities, leaders, and institutions in responding to the challenges and opportunities of a global health emergency arguably might be considered as valuable assets to respond to the global climate emergency at various levels of government.

What we achieved

Daring Cities 2020 has been the largest online gathering of the urban community on the climate emergency to date bringing together mayors, governors, councillors, and other urban leaders. Daring Cities has become the Conference of Cities on the Climate Emergency at which urban leaders share their commitments and strategies, to showcase that it is realistic to achieve climate neutrality in an equitable and timely manner. Daring Cities is and will continue to be a space to reflect, collaborate, and accelerate, focusing on the urgency to act.
