Buy Better Food Campaign for sustainable food on the public plate

Buy Better Food Campaign
ACTIVITY INFORMATION
What we are doing

The Buy Better Food is a European advocacy campaign which focuses on public food procurement as an important driver of food system transformation towards a sustainable, healthy and fair food system in the European Union, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the EU Farm to Fork Strategy. This campaign is focused on describing, boosting and amplifying local dynamics to catalyse the attention of European policy makers in Brussels on the potential of public procurement. In fact, the campaign focuses on empowering subnational advocates to improve the policy framework at the EU level, making more visible and impactful the examples of good public procurement practices that already exist at the local level and their relevance for the entire European continent.

What we are achieving

Two grants are given to ensure activities covering both, a grassroot and an European angle. Firstly, out of a grassroot angle, work focuses on national based partners to adapt and spread the message of the campaign within national context. In terms of activities plans: (1) mapping national key actors and key countries to build a strong Coalition; (2) meeting with local actors to increase engagement; (3) develop a BuyBetterFood communication toolkit, including good practice videos; (4) organizing an event with the European Commission. Secondly, activities from an European angle include: (1) running a storytelling workshop to improve all Coalition members communication; (2) launching an online challenge; (3) organizing an event on public food procurement and food security; (4) getting more endorsers for the Sustainable Public Procurement Manifesto.
