The Seongbuk-gu District has formed a public-private partnership governance system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and made every effort to achieve carbon neutrality by building energy saving stations. As a result, the district successfully cut down on electricity usage by 6,538,322 kWh from 2012 to 2024 leveraging these stations. This saving is equivalent to 3,126 tons of greenhouse gas reduction and can be translated into approximately 530 million KRW in electricity costs.
Seongbuk energy saving stations were introduced with the idea that when many people join hands together to save energy, it would equate to constructing a power station. Here, the key is to engage in continuous energy-saving and production activities not as individuals but as a community. Seongbuk-gu is setting an exemplary model of a sustainable district contributing to carbon neutrality by enhancing citizen awareness through education and holding continuous activities based on the public-private partnership.
