The Charles Labatiuk Award for Environmental Excellence
In order to recognize the many environmental champions of our corporation, the City of Edmonton has created the Charles Labatiuk Award for Environmental Excellence.2015 Nominees
Congratulations to our nine nominees! Up to three will be chosen as finalists, and the winner will be announced at the award ceremony on Tuesday, June 2 at City Hall.

2015 Finalists & Winner
As part of being selected as a finalist, $300 is donated to Root For Trees in each project team's name in recognition of their dedication to the environment and to increase the tree canopy in our city. This is in support of The Way We Green objective 3.6.1:
"The City of Edmonton establishes, implements and maintains the Urban Forest Management Plan with the aim to achieve a 20 per cent urban canopy."
As part of being selected as the winner, a commemorative tree will be planted in a City of Edmonton park in the project team's name, and the team member(s) will receive a framed award certificate and a gift card.

Team Members: William Wilson, Bart Agate,

This team created a method for test bus exhaust during a bus idle period, analyzing emissions for five contaminants: particulate matter, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. The test helps to evaluate the health of the bus engine and provides important information for decisions on bus replacement.

The Green Team is dedicated to improving the environmental impact of on-site practices and encouraging sustainability in the lives of employees at work and at home. It does so by modeling environmental responsibility and engaging and educating visitors to the Zoo. The team has incorporated many environmental programs, including a palm oil campaign, Terracycle programs, green summer challenges, green gift exchanges, cell phone collection and more.

Jasmine Hestad
Through her work in Special Events and Volunteer Services, Jasmine's leadership impacts many people. She goes above and beyond to teach staff and volunteers about environmental stewardship and facilities ways to have them pass that information onto others. Also, she has spearheaded a number of partnerships with international climate groups and started a waste collection program for staff and the public, including the first public drop-off location for Tassimo disks to be recycled.

About the Award
The award is named in honour of the late Charles Labatiuk, Ph.D., P.Eng. Charles was a longtime employee of the City of Edmonton and a passionate environmentalist. His many accomplishments included a key role in the development and implementation of the Waste Management Branch's ISO 14001 environmental management system.
