In April 2010, Kita Kyushu City was selected as one of the municipalities to implement the demonstration of a next-generation energy and social system by the national government. In August 2010, the masterplan for this project was developed and the project was started by the participating companies and organizations.
This project with emphasis on the next-generation electric power system (smart grid), is aimed at bringing about changes in urban development and planning as a whole, including a next-generation transportation system as well as life and business style.

-CO2-reduction goal: reduction by 50% by fiscal year 2014: compared to other average areas in the city in 2005.

・Introduction of energy-saving systems to buildings
・Construction of a regional energy management system based on a regional power-saving station
