CULTIVATE: CO-DESIGNING FOOD SHARING INNOVATION FOR RESILIENCE

CULTIVATE
ACTIVITY INFORMATION
What we are doing

CULTIVATE is an EU-funded project aiming to increase awareness and knowledge of foodsharing initiatives (FSIs), understand what drives or hampers their practice, and foster sustainability, inclusion, and resilience in urban and peri-urban food systems through food sharing. Many FSIs already provide a positive contribution towards a transition towards sustainable food systems yet their activities are often hampered by complex, fragmented food governance, uncertain finance and insecure tenure. CULTIVATE aims to develop the Food Sharing Compass, a social innovation support platform for FSIs, policy makers, food supply actors, researchers, and citizens. With its five tools, the Compass will help these stakeholders navigate food sharing landscapes and cultures to understand, develop, replicate, scale out and strengthen food sharing and create more sustainable, resilient, and healthy urban and peri-urban food systems. CULTIVATE supports the EU’s inclusive climate mitigation and adaptation ambitions.

What we are achieving

ICLEI will create a strong EU Sustainable Food Sharing CoP through a Food Sharing Amplification Programme offering peer-to-peer learning between and beyond Hub and Spoke FSI partners; Replicate CULTIVATE’s social innovation and decision support tools with CoP members, scaling them out to Spoke locations; and, Integrate the refined tools into the Food Sharing Compass – an interactive online tool co-developed with and for the 5 target groups of the urban food sharing transition.
