Many software tools have been developed to take stock of greenhouse gas emissions from local governments - it is expected that more tools will enter the market in the near future as urban greenhouse gas emissions gain increasing significance in a global context.
Greenhouse gas accounting software developers for cities and local governments are often unaware of similar tools programmed by other organizations. Learning from past experiences by identifying relevant software and encouraging communication among developers will optimize tools designed for local governments.
The cities who use these tools will benefit from the consolidation of features in each piece of software; this will give cities the upper hand in the search for software tailored to their needs and circumstances.
