R20 Regions of Climate Action founded by former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger organized on 10 and 11 October, the first World Summit of Regions for Climate in Paris. The event, hosted by the Region of Ile de France, brought together some 700 participants, including representatives of regions and other subnational governments and authorities from around the world.
The aim of the Summit was to generate momentum via a bottom-up approach mobilising regions ahead of the 21st Conference of the Parties of the Climate Convention which will take place in Paris in late 2015.
During a signing ceremony on Saturday, represented by Secretary General Gino Van Begin, ICLEI joined the Paris declaration, which calls for the adoption of an international climate agreement at the COP-21.
