The 2015-2016 Earth Hour City Challenge: celebrating over 100 cities’ climate commitments and actions at COP21

This year, ICLEI, together with the WWF will bring over 100 EHCC cities’ inspiring climate commitments, performance and actions to the COP21, and we invite you to join the celebration!

The COP21 in Paris, France, will be a milestone event in the international climate negotiations. In line with this year’s negotiations, the 2015- 2016 EHCC theme, “Bridging the Gap”, invited cities in 21 select countries to show their power and potential to support national governments to close the gap between the currently aggregated global climate commitments and the additional commitments and actions necessary to keep global warming below the 2° Celsius mark.

Reports are in and EHCC cities and towns from 21 countries including China, Peru, Vietnam, Rwanda and Tanzania; and veterans Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Finland, France, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, and the USA – have shown their remarkable leadership, through reporting their inspiring climate commitments, performance and actions through the EHCC’s official reporting platform, the carbon Climate Registry.

Join ICLEI and the WWF, 04 December, at the Cities and Regions Pavilion – TAP 2015 from 13:30 – 15:30, for a unique session, Celebrating local climate commitments and initiatives reporting in the carbonn® Climate Registry.

The session to showcase local and subnational leadership, facilitated by Maryke van Staden, Director of ICLEI’s Bonn Center for Local Climate Action and Reporting, along with esteemed panelists such as WWF Sweden’s Carina Borgström-Hansson, Head of the Earth Hour City Challenge.  Highlights also include a sneak peak debut of the WWF film, “The Urban Green”.
