Call to all cities: Last chance to sign up for Earth Hour City Challenge 2014

What have Grenoble, Cleveland and Rio de Janeiro in common? They are all demonstrating their climate leadership and are engaging as participants of the Earth Hour City Challenge (EHCC) 2014-2015! Why don’t you challenge them and share your own climate commitments and activities?

When participating in the EHCC, climate-active cities join a friendly global competition on the basis of their local climate actions and performance. An international expert jury will review all submissions and select a national winner for each participating country - 18 countries this time! From these national winners one global champion is selected.

Last year Cape Town, South Africa won the prestigious title of the Global Earth Hour Capital 2014, attesting to the reality that cities from the Southern Hemisphere engage in climate change mitigation and can raise the bar. This is the last call for all cities in the 18 countries to sign up for the Challenge through the carbonn Cities Climate Registry (cCCR) until 5 September.

The countries are:

  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • Colombia
  • Finland
  • France
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Malaysia
  • Mexico
  • Republic of Korea
  • Serbia
  • South Africa
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Tanzania
  • Thailand
  • USA

On the EHCC competition:

The EHCC is a recurring year-long competition designed to mobilize action and support from cities in the global transition towards a climate friendly, one-planet future. In a partnership between WWF and ICLEI, ICLEI provides the use of its carbonn Cities Climate Registry (cCCR) as the reporting platform for the initiative.
