When participating in the EHCC, climate-active cities join a friendly global competition on the basis of their local climate actions and performance. An international expert jury will review all submissions and select a national winner for each participating country - 18 countries this time! From these national winners one global champion is selected.
Last year Cape Town, South Africa won the prestigious title of the Global Earth Hour Capital 2014, attesting to the reality that cities from the Southern Hemisphere engage in climate change mitigation and can raise the bar. This is the last call for all cities in the 18 countries to sign up for the Challenge through the carbonn Cities Climate Registry (cCCR) until 5 September.
