Community Choice Aggregation
Oak Park was the first large Illinois community to adopt municipal aggregation - the ability to bundle residential and business electric accounts and seek a cheaper supply rate - and the first in the US to contract for 100% renewable energy for the aggregation period (2 years). To date, aggregation members have saved a total of $4.7 million. The contract was extended in 2012 and as part of the extension agreement, carbon offsets were purchased equal to Oak Park's annual residential natural gas consumption, resulting in the creation of approximately 20,000 carbon neutral homes through June 2013, possibly another national "first" for Oak Park.
