The Vulnerable ecosystem recovery programme towards climate ange
resilience program aims to increase the resilience of island and wetland ecosystems to climate change by building on the successes of the second phase of the Decentralisation and Environment Management Project. Proposed investments Will focus on deepening the gains from the previous two ended phases, and will focus on long term capacity development to achieve improved sustainable management of natural resources, clean renewable energy resources and use, environment and climate change resilience.

The Project will address severe erosion caused by deforestation, over cultivation of hillsides and intense rainfall events linked to climate change. The project aims to enhance food and energy security, support climate resilient livelihoods and improve access to renewable energy. Erosion control measures will be introduced to improve agricultural productivity. The project will also provide biogas, improved cooking stoves and rainwater harvesting systems to reduce pressure on forest resources and enhance water security. Livelihoods of vulnerable households including women headed households and youth will be strengthened with support for income generating activities.
