All around the world, local governments are taking the lead in the fight against climate change and are voluntarily committing themselves to greenhouse gas emission reduction, renewable energy and energy efficiency targets. This is of particular importance in those countries whose National governments are not bound by international climate agreements such as the Kyoto Protocol.
Local governments have considerable authority to influence planning and investment decisions within their jurisdictions. They also have the potential to implement policies that effect behavioral change among their citizens. Committed political leadership at the local level holds the key to positive change.

The Copenhagen world catalogue of city commitments was the first global collection to centralize facts and figures on community climate action – from targets to achievements.
A collaborative effort of the City of Copenhagen and ICLEI, it called on local government entities – cities, towns, villages and counties – to present their municipal climate achievements.
carbonn® builds upon the success of the Cities Climate Catalogue by integrating the climate commitments into its database.
